Understanding the past helps dictate the future. The Panhandle's storied and near-catastrophic conservation history presents many challenges when shared with a broad audience. We decided early on that animation was the best medium to tackle such a heavy subject matter. By weaving beautiful animation throughout the storyline, we can teach this history and share other unique perspectives in a more lighthearted and entertaining way.
Audiences will transition between live-action and animation, providing an immersive experience that will educate and inspire.
It is crucial that audiences feel empowered and motivated by this film, not guilty or turned away. Storytelling through animation is a powerful tool that will allow us to accomplish this goal.
There has been a resurgence of nostalgia for the 1980s and 90s over the last decade, and nowhere is that more evident than in film and TV. Using a traditional "Classic Disney" style of hand-drawn animation in The Paper Bear, we will tap into this growing trend while creating a timeless film. The animation style will resonate well with younger generations and older audiences who grew up watching two-dimensional animated movies. Finding a team capable of doing this type of animation is challenging due to time, skill, and resources.
The Chase a Cloud team has showcased the tremendous talent and helped create a style aligned with the film's mission. They have helped storyboard nearly every frame to determine the overall scope and budget better. They are also providing other world-class talents, which will help us to complete the film, including sound design and music composition.
We're proud of the progress we've made so far and how it's even helped us bring on advisors who come from big animation giants like Disney. Tom Bancroft is a former Disney animator who created characters in some of the most beloved animated features of all time, including The Lion King, Pocahontas, and Mulan.
"The artwork is beautiful and I don't say that lightly since I've seen some of the best in the world. These are top notch background paintings and character designs." -Tom Bancroft
We can't wait to share more animation news and other important behind-the-scenes updates.
